How to support mood and focus via Vitamin D

From lab-testing to injections: how we address seasonal deficiencies.

Many of us in the northern hemisphere are actually encountering a common nutritional challenge without even realizing it: Vitamin D deficiency.

You might think of Vitamin D as just a "sunshine supplement," but it acts more like a foundation for your entire body. When your levels are low, it may trigger physical responses that feel like a constant weight on your shoulders.

In this post, we break down exactly what to look for and how supporting your levels may contribute to your overall sense of wellness.

We may recommend:

  • Prescribing a vitamin D injection: Concentrations of nutrients, such as vitamin D, may be prescribed as intramuscular injections. These booster shots may promote efficient absorption, as some patients have trouble with their absorption of nutrients due to a chronic illness

  • Recommending oral supplementation: A daily vitamin D supplement may help support optimal nutrients, and we usually recommend taking vitamin D with a meal to maximize absorption.

  • Adding vitamin D foods to your diet: Consuming vitamin D foods is valuable for sustaining vitamin D levels, and if you’re on a restricted diet. We may discuss eating fortified foods, such as oatmeal or almond milk; or if you’re not on a vegan or vegetarian diet, we may recommend consuming egg yolks, salmon, or tuna.

Because Vitamin D absorption is influenced by everything from your genetics to your digestive health, a one-size-fits-all approach rarely yields optimal results. At our clinic, we focus on identifying your specific requirements to help you maintain mental clarity and physical resilience throughout the season.

Towards a more vibrant you,

P.S. Did you know that Vitamin D receptors are located in the areas of the brain responsible for focus? Even if you're taking a supplement, you may not be reaching the levels needed for cognitive support. Click here to learn more.
